Travel - General
My thoughts on some of the topics in the travel section:
- Top 10 Travel Websites: Travelocity and Expedia are the best ones
- Top 10 Hotels: Hilton sucks, the rest are good
- Top 10 Caribbean Destinations: So far I think Jamaica is the best place. Cuba and Dominican Republic should not be in the top 10 in my opinion.
- Top 10 Best Cities: Canada rocks, but I'm surprised to see Toronto and not Montreal Travel – Caribbean
I've been to several Caribbean destinations and it's hard to choose the top ten. They are all nice in their own way, it really depends on what you are looking for. Here are some comments about the places I've visited, I listed them in order of preference:
- Jamaica: I went to Negril with my husband two years ago and so far it is my favorite Caribbean destination. The beaches were average and it didn't feel safe to walk around at night but Jamaica is definitely the place to go if you want to relax and have fun. Jamaicans are so friendly and they really know how to party.
- Aruba: I went to Aruba on my honeymoon about a month ago. The beaches were clear and the nightlife was good too.
- Cuba: I visited Cuba twice: I went to Varadero with my family over ten years ago and I went to Cayo Coco with my husband four years ago. The beaches were beautiful but there wasn't much to do.
- Venezuela: I visited Venezuela with my family, mostly Margarita and Puerto la Cruz, four times over ten years ago. I'm sure that a lot has changed since then, but here is what I thought: The beaches weren't as clear as many other islands but there were plenty of things to do. It felt safe to walk around and there were many excellent restaurants.
- Mexico: I visited Cancun with my family over ten years ago. The beaches were beautiful and I enjoyed visiting the Mayan temples.
- Dominican Republic: I visited Puerto Plata with my family over ten years ago. The beaches were nice and it was safe to walk around.
- St. Maarten: I visited St. Maarten a year ago with my husband. It's a nice island with a lot of nice beaches but we didn't have a good time, mostly because the locals weren’t friendly.

I also went on a cruise for my honeymoon about a month ago. Each island seemed nice but it's hard to rate them since we only visited them for a few hours. Here is what I thought of them, again listed in order of preference:
- St. Thomas & St. Johns: These islands were beautiful and the beaches were stunning.
- Barbados: The beaches were beautiful.
- Dominica: The rainforest was amazing but it didn't seem like there was anything else to do.
- Puerto Rico: It was alright but I wouldn't go back there. Travel – US & Canada
Here are some comments about the Canadian provinces I’ve seen:
Quebec: - I was born in Montreal and lived there for 26 years. Montreal is unique, it has a European look with a wide variety of excellent restaurants and an amazing nightlife. No matter where I live, I will always consider Montreal my home. - I lived in Sherbrooke with my husband for three years while we attended Bishop’s University. Sherbrooke is an ideal place to attend university. Since it is a rural area, it naturally provides a peaceful place to study without distractions.
Ontario: - I’ve visited Ottawa and Toronto several times. Although Ottawa is the place to be on Canada day, I find both of these cities quite boring.
Prince Edward Island: - My husband and I drove to PEI from Montreal a few years ago. PEI is very scenic but there isn’t much to do there.

Here are some comments about the states I’ve seen:
Massachusetts: - My husband and I moved to Mass when I accepted a job here. We’ve been living in Mass for almost a year and I find it a lot like Montreal. There are also a lot of nice beaches nearby.
Vermont: - I’ve visited Vermont several times. It is very scenic and peaceful, making it an excellent location for camping.
New York: - I’ve visited New York several times as well. New York is always fun, it has everything so there is always something to do.
Florida: - I’ve visited Florida twice. I wasn’t overly impressed with it as a vacation destination but it’s probably a good place to live.
California: - I also visited California twice. California is my favorite state and I would love to live there one day. It’s beautiful, it has everything and the weather is awesome.
Nevada: - I drove to Los Vegas from San Francisco with my husband and my family about five years ago. Even though I hate gambling, it’s impossible not to have fun in Los Vegas because there is so much to see and do. Travel – Europe
So far I’ve commented on the US, Canada and the Caribbean. Europe, however, is in a class of its own and cannot be compared to any of these places. Here are some comments:
Italy: I visited Italy a few times with my family many years ago. In my opinion, it is the most beautiful place in the world. Each region has so much to offer, from the scenic landscapes to the intriguing art and architecture from the Roman and Byzantine Empires. Apart from all that, the weather is awesome and the food is to die for. My dream is to retire in Italy.
France: I also visited France a few times with my family many years ago. France is also quite beautiful with its landscapes and its ancient architecture. I would definitely go back to see it all again. |
